WAV là định dạng âm thanh không nén tiêu chuẩn cho Windows, lưu trữ dạng sóng PCM đầy đủ. Nó cung cấp chất lượng hoàn hảo nhưng với kích thước tệp lớn (~10 MB mỗi phút cho CD).

Khi nào nên dùng .WAV
Sử dụng WAV cho sản xuất âm thanh, ghi âm studio, hiệu ứng âm thanh và bất kỳ quy trình nào yêu cầu âm thanh PCM không nén. Sử dụng FLAC cho lưu trữ không mất dữ liệu.
Chi tiết kỹ thuật
WAV sử dụng container RIFF với các chunk (fmt, data, fact). Thông thường lưu trữ PCM tuyến tính với 16/24/32-bit tại 44.1/48/96 kHz. Nó cũng có thể chứa audio nén (ADPCM, GSM) và siêu dữ liệu (LIST INFO).
Lịch sử
Microsoft và IBM tạo WAV vào năm 1991 như một phần của đặc tả RIFF. Nó trở thành tiêu chuẩn âm thanh mặc định trên Windows và được chấp nhận rộng rãi cho sản xuất âm thanh chuyên nghiệp.
